Astaxanthin from algae, “King of the carotenoids”, is a powerful antioxidant. Astaxanthin  has a number of skin benefits. In particular, astaxanthin provides sun protection through multiple mechanisms. First, it blocks a good amount of ultraviolet light directly. Second, it neutralizes some of the free radicals induced by UV radiation and responsible for some of the sun damage (single oxygen…). Third, astaxanthin inhibits the induction of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) by UV light. (MMP are an important factor in sun damage and skin aging). Astaxanthin improves the skin condition. Very superior to other carotenoids, can access the brain blood barrier and bring antioxidant and anti-inflammatory protection to the brain and central nervous system, with neuroprotective properties, and the eye blood retinal barrier and bring antioxidant and anti-inflammatory protection to the eyes. .Possesses antiinflammatory properties (i.e red skin is an inflammation).

 

Coenzyme Q10, “the skin energizer”, it is a cofactor in cellular energy and is another important antioxidant. It is an antioxidant, antiaging and energizing nutrient for the skin. Contributes to preserve collagen content of the skin, promotes proliferation of fibroblasts, elastins and key proteins of the skin, and decrease the expression of some collagen destructive enzymes such as metalloproteinases and collagenases. Helps to prevent the destruction of keratynocites caused by ROS (accumulation of reactive oxygen species in skin).

 

Hyaluronic acid (HA), the key molecule involved in skin moisture is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) with a unique capacity to bind and retain water molecules. Is a natural moisturizing agent and is essential for the structure of the extracellular matrix which keeps the skin moist and supple. Acts as a space-filler in dermal layers between skin cells and produces a long-lasting skin enhancement which helps make skin soft, smooth and elastic, especially for the face and lips. Nourishes and hydrates collagen which is vital to maintaining the skin’s layers and structures. Skin aging is also associated with loss of skin moisture so also decreases hyaluronic acid production by the body. Thus the skin is dehydrated, dry and loses volume which is an enabling element for the appearance of wrinkles.

 

Hydrolysed marine collagen  (Peptan® clinically proven), induces the synthesis of new collagen fibers and expanding its diameter helping to reorganize the extracellular matrix of the dermis, to get a reparative effect on damaged tissues and an improvement of the the mechanical properties of the dermis to withstand external mechanical stresses.

 

Black currant seed oil rich in omega 6 (GLA) and Omega 3 (ALA) softens and protects the skin. Contains significant amounts of linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Linolenic acid (LA) is one of the most important fatty acids in ceramides which are the largest class of polar lipids of the stratum corneum. Its deficiency leads to altered lipid bilayers stacked around the corneocytes layer resulting in an impairment of the barrier function, involves scaling and thickening of the epidermis, accompanied by a greater loss of water from the epidermis (sign of epidermal  barrier disruption). The GLA is rapidly and efficiently converted in dihomo-y-linolenic, precursor of metabolites with potent anti-inflammatory effects. Its deficit may predispose to inflammatory skin overreactions. GLA consumption normalizes inflammatory eicosanoids balance. Therefore deficiency of linolenic acid and GLA can not only alter the skin barrier but predispose skin to inflammatory overreactions.

 

Pomegranate extract. It is a fruit with multiple properties: antioxidant, cardioprotective, antiinflammatory, etc. Rich in flavonoids and polyphenols such as ellagitannins, ellagic acid and punicalagins which besides being powerful antioxidants are also useful for preventing proteolytic degradation of existing dermal elastic fibers and for enhancing more efficient elastogenesis in aged skin, they protect the skin from oxidative stress and UV-b radiation that leads to photoaging.

Selenium, is an antioxidant, the essential catalytic component of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and is absolutely required for its function. The glutathione peroxidase enzyme is responsible for the detoxication of lipid peroxides.
